Weather Warning

Precipitation extends into the night hours in the Pacific

June 30, 2020
06.15 p.m.

Discussion: Instability in the upper atmosphere added to local factors this afternoon have generated the presence of heavy downpours and thunderstorms in the Central and South Pacific, as well as west of the Central Valley and the Nicoya Peninsula. The highest accumulations reach between 50-80 mm in the South Pacific.

Forecast: During the first hours of the night, showers and showers with an electrical storm are expected in the Central and South Pacific, especially in the coastal part; amounts between 20-45 mm are estimated.

In the rest of the country very scattered light rains are possible, as well as fog banks in mountainous sectors.

Warning: Due to the rains of the last hours in sectors of the Central and South Pacific, special attention since they show high levels of soil saturation.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
  • Take refuge in a safe place if you hear a thunderstorm or feel strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
