Weather Warning

Heavy showers and storms in the Central and South Pacific this afternoon

June 30, 2020
02.45 p.m.

Discussion: Instability in the upper atmosphere added to the warm morning temperatures and the entrance of humidity from the Pacific have favored the presence of downpours and thunderstorms in regions of the Central and South Pacific, with maximum accumulations of 30 mm in the last two hours.

Forecast: In the remainder of this afternoon and early evening, heavy showers with a thunderstorm will remain in the Central and South Pacific, as well as in the Nicoya Peninsula in a dispersed manner, with amounts between 50-60 mm in lapses of 6 hours.

In the North, Caribbean and Central Valley, the rains will be witnessed in isolation, accumulated less than 20 mm in the periods indicated above.

Warning: Special attention in the Central Pacific and South Pacific, which are regions that this Tuesday already have saturated soils.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
  • Take refuge in a safe place if you hear a thunderstorm or feel strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
  • Attention on the main national highways, such as route 27 and route 32.
  • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr
