Tropical Depression # 29 with indirect influence starting Sunday

Discussion: The atmospheric disturbance (tropical wave # 50) has strengthened, cataloged in tropical depression # 29. This tropical cyclone is located in the Caribbean Sea to the south of Haiti, approximately 1,189 km from the city of Limón, moving at 24 km/h and sustained winds of 55 km/h.

Forecast: It is estimated that tropical depression # 29 will continue to advance during Sunday over the south of Jamaica and then between Monday and Tuesday, approaching the northeast coast of Nicaragua, as the above happens, an intensification of this cyclone is estimated to develop into a tropical storm.

Due to its trajectory, indirect influence is expected on Costa Rica during the course of Sunday and extending at the beginning of the week, a situation that will favor a rainy scenario in the country, especially in the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 100-150 mm are estimated and maximums of 200 mm in 24 hours.

Warning: High percentage of soil saturation prevails in the Pacific, North Zone, southern and eastern cantons of the Central Valley, special attention is recommended.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
