Weather Warning

Downpours this afternoon in different sectors of the country

October 31, 2020
12.20 p.m.

Discussion: Moist and unstable atmospheric conditions, added to morning warming and high evaporation; They are determining factors to promote cloudy developments and downpours during the afternoon and early evening in the different regions of the country.

Forecast: For this afternoon and early evening, downpours accompanied by a thunderstorm are expected, the strongest in the Pacific and the North Zone, estimated between 30-60 mm, higher amounts are possible locally. For the Central Valley rains of variable intensity and possible isolated storm are expected, with accumulated between 25-50 mm. For their part, in the mountainous areas of the Caribbean, scattered rains are projected with a very localized electrical storm. Estimated amounts between 5-20 mm, variable cloud cover will prevail in the Caribbean coastal sector without significant rainfall.

Warning: High percentage of soil saturation prevails in the Pacific, North Zone, southern and eastern cantons of the Central Valley, special attention is recommended.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewer saturation.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
