Weather Warning

Rains of varying intensity for this afternoon

November 14, 2023
10:40 a.m.

Diagnosis: Local factors such as diurnal warming, high humidity content and entry of sea breezes favor unstable atmospheric conditions. Currently, the development of cloudiness is observed along the mountainous axis of the country.

Forecast: In the afternoon, punctual rains of strong intensity (dispersed in nature) are expected for several sectors of the country. The Central Valley, Pacific, Northern Zone and Caribbean mountains show the possibility of an isolated electrical storm. During the early hours of the night, it is estimated that isolated rain conditions with weak to moderate intensity will continue for the North Zone, North Pacific and Caribbean coasts. Punctual accumulations for the 12-hour period will be between 20 – 50 mm with maximums located between 60 – 80 mm (higher probability towards mountainous sectors of the Northern Zone). In addition, for the night period, fog banks are expected in mountainous sectors of the country.

Warning: Soil saturation continues with high percentages in the North Zone, North Caribbean and South Pacific, take extreme preventive measures.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
