Informative Meteorological Warning

Formation of low pressure system in the middle of the week with cyclonic potential

November 14, 2023
11:50 a.m.

Diagnosis: There is a possibility of the formation of a low pressure system in the southwest of the Caribbean Sea towards the second half of this week, in the vicinity of the Caribbean of Central America.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), a gradual development of this system is possible towards the weekend, with the possibility of the formation of a tropical cyclone with a possible northeastern trajectory, moving away from the region.

The possibility of developing a tropical cyclone is 20% in 48 hours and 70% within seven days (high possibility).

Forecast: Current analyzes and numerical models show high uncertainty. However, the possible influence of this system on the national territory is increasingly less because its possible formation would be near the Greater Antilles (far from our region). The IMN maintains strict uninterrupted surveillance and will immediately update information on the possible formation of this phenomenon and its eventual effects in Costa Rica.

Warning: Special attention in sectors with high soil saturation such as the South Pacific and North Zone.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends being attentive to the issuance of informative weather warnings that are published on: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute, WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr

Next information notice: tomorrow at 12:00 m.
