Weather Warning
Scattered showers with thunderstorms this Wednesday, for Pacific regions
November 15, 2023
4:00 p.m.
Diagnosis: Local factors such as diurnal warming, high humidity content and entry of sea breezes favor unstable atmospheric conditions. So far, there has been the occurrence of downpours accompanied by electrical storms in sectors such as: San Vito de Coto Brus, Golfito, Neily, San Isidro del General, Zona de los Santos, north of Heredia-Alajuela and west-south of San José, locally on the Nicoya Peninsula.
The amounts accumulated so far are all between 10 - 30 mm with specific maximums in Tarrazú, La Juntas and Laurel in the South Pacific of 40 and 50 mm, respectively.
Forecast: For the remainder of the afternoon, localized downpours with storms are expected to develop around the Golfo Dulce and the southern border with Panama, in the mountains and towards coastal sectors of the Central Pacific, to the south and west of the Northern Zone and around the Gulf of Nicoya in Guanacaste. The Central Valley will present variable rains to the west. Punctual accumulations for the 12-hour period will be between 10 – 40 mm with maximums located between 50 – 70 mm (higher probability towards the South Pacific).
In addition, for the night period, fog banks are expected in mountainous sectors of the country and variable low cloudiness in the Central Valley.
Warning: Soil saturation with high percentages remains in the Northern Zone and mountainous Northern Caribbean, in addition to most of the South Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events.
• Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
