Weather Warning
Rainy conditions this Thursday
November 16, 2023
10.45. a.m.
Discussion: The low-pressure system in the Caribbean Sea, near the coast of Nicaragua, favors a humid and unstable pattern, and also promotes the activation of the Intertropical Convergence Zone, positioning it over Costa Rica. The above has generated cloudy conditions since early hours and rains in the South Pacific, scattered in the Central Valley, amounts between 10-20 mm.
Forecast: Precipitation will continue to be present for much of the day. At the end of the morning and during the afternoon, rains of varying intensity and isolated downpours with an electrical storm in the South Pacific are estimated and will extend towards the afternoon in the mountainous and coastal Central Pacific, as well as the Central Valley. For the Northern Zone and mountains of the Caribbean, heavy downpours are expected, accompanied by an electrical storm. The rains in the mountainous parts of the Caribbean will gradually extend towards the coasts towards the end of the afternoon. Accumulated between 30-60 mm and maximums between 80-100 mm in periods of 6-12 hours.
During the night, intermittent rains are expected in the North Zone, coastal sectors of the Pacific; while in the Central Valley there may be light rain and banks of fog.
Warning: High soil saturation prevails in the South Pacific, North Zone and mountainous North Caribbean, extreme measures.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution due to sewage saturation and possible flash floods, as well as the main routes of the country in the event of heavy rain events.
- Prevention against electrical storms and seeking shelter in a safe place in case strong gusts of wind occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
