Informative Meteorological Warning
Low pressure with cyclonic potential moves towards the Northeast
November 16, 2023
12.00 p.m.
Discussion: The low pressure system shows greater organization this Thursday, its center is broad and is located off the coast of Nicaragua, in the Caribbean Sea. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicates in its latest analysis a 70% probability of developing a tropical cyclone in 48 hours, and within 7 days the probability is 70%.
Forecast: Conditions are ideal for this system to strengthen into a tropical depression while it moves northeast towards Jamaica, eastern Cuba and Haiti; Therefore, any type of influence of this system as a tropical cyclone is ruled out since when this could happen it would be positioned in the Greater Antilles.
This Thursday and at least Saturday, interaction will be maintained with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), placing the ITCZ over Costa Rica, causing cloudiness and rain, especially in the South Pacific and to a lesser extent the rest of the national territory. The above will depend on the evolution of the low pressure.
The IMN maintains strict uninterrupted surveillance and information on the possible formation of this phenomenon will be immediately updated.
Warning: Special attention in sectors with high soil saturation such as the South Pacific and North Zone.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
