Informative Meteorological Warning
Low pressure decreases cyclonic potential and moves towards the northeast
November 17, 2023
12:00 p.m.
Diagnosis: This Friday the low pressure system shows less organization, its center is over Jamaica, north of the Caribbean Sea. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) indicates in its latest analysis a 40% probability of developing a tropical cyclone in 48 hours, and within 7 days the probability is 40%.
Forecast: The probability of cyclogenesis has been decreasing due to greater disorganization of the system. However, it maintains a moderate probability of strengthening over the Greater Antilles.
During this Friday and Saturday the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) remains over Costa Rica due to the low pressure system. Unstable conditions associated with the ITCZ lead to cloudiness and rain, especially in the South Pacific. Furthermore, to a lesser extent and of an isolated nature in the rest of the national territory.
The IMN maintains strict uninterrupted surveillance and information on the possible formation of this phenomenon will be immediately updated.
Warning: Special attention in sectors with high soil saturation such as the South Pacific, Central Pacific and North Zone.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends being attentive to the issuance of informative weather warnings that are published on: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute and WEB page: www.imn.ac.cr
Next information notice: tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
