Weather Warning
Showers and Thunderstorms This Evening
April 29, 2025
10 am
Forecast: The atmosphere remains humid over Costa Rica this Tuesday, due to the position of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the country. This, combined with local factors such as warm temperatures and the entry of sea breezes, will favor cloud formation and episodes of heavy rain/downpours, mainly in the afternoon and early evening. This morning, occasional rain has been reported in the Caribbean and plains of the Northern Zone.
Forecast: During this afternoon and early evening, heavy rain and downpours with thunderstorms are expected, beginning in the Central and South Pacific, then spreading to the Nicoya Peninsula. Accumulations of between 20 and 80 mm are estimated over 6 hours, with possible higher amounts locally. This rainfall could extend to parts of the central and western Central Valley, as well as to the mountains of the Northern Zone in the afternoon.
Warning: High soil saturation levels of 85%-95% remain in the South Pacific. Furthermore, in the Central Pacific, soil saturation levels reach around 80%. This condition creates high vulnerability to incidents such as flooding or landslides. Extreme precautionary measures are recommended.
Due to the above, the Mexican National Meteorological Agency (IMN) recommends: • Caution due to sewage saturation in areas prone to this type of flooding. • Prepare for thunderstorms and seek shelter in a safe place if strong wind gusts occur or are perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among other things. These gusts can reach 80 km/h in some isolated cases. • Stay informed through social media: Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the website: www.imn.ac.cr
