Weather Report # 2

Rainy conditions persist in the Caribbean and Northern Zone due to cold push # 5

December 10, 2020
1:00 am

Diagnosis: During this night, the cold front associated with cold thrust # 5 has caused
cloudy conditions with precipitation of varying intensity in the Caribbean, the North
Zone, the central Pacific, the Gulf of Nicoya and part of the Central Valley. In
addition to this, strong gusts between 50-60 km / h have occurred in the lower parts
of Guanacaste and the Central Valley, in addition to values ??between 40-95 km / h in
the north of Guanacaste and the mountain ranges.

Rainfall in the last 06 hours in the Caribbean regions, the North Zone and the
mountainous regions of the Pacific have been moderate.

The María Aguilar River and the Banano River are reported to have risen.

The highest rainfalls with downpours are reported in the mountainous southern
Caribbean, near the border with Panama.

Forecast: During the remainder of this morning, rainfall of varying intensity
will continue in the Caribbean and the North Zone, with possible heavy downpours
locally.

In addition, intermittent rains of weak to moderate intensity are expected for the
mountainous areas and the eastern Central Valley. For the Central and South Pacific,
isolated rains with possible occasional downpours are expected in the surroundings
of Osa and near the border with Panama.

Regarding the behavior of the wind during this morning, gusts between 80-100 km / h
are expected for the north of Guanacaste and mountain ranges of the country. For the
Central Valley and the lower parts of Guanacaste, between 40-60 km / h are expected.

Warning: Caution in the Caribbean and Northern Zone regions (especially the Northern
Caribbean) due to the high saturation of the soils given the persistence of rains
during this day. Caution in the Central Valley and Guanacaste due to the strong gusts
of wind that are expected this morning.

Therefore, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding from river and stream flooding, as well as
in areas prone to landslides in the Caribbean.
• Prevention of wind gusts and their possible impact on roofs, electrical wiring,
signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous areas of the country and Guanacaste
  (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime
navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of
Nicoya and north of the Central Pacific.
