Tropical storm Iota strengthens to hurricane

Noviember 15, 2020
02:00 a.m.

Diagnosis: Hurricane Iota, at midnight cut, is located 705 km east-southeast of Cabo
Gracias a Dios between Honduras and Nicaragua, its displacement speed is 7 km / h, now
it registers sustained winds of 120 km / h . Due to its position, it has begun to show
slight influence in the national territory with rains in the North Zone and North
Caribbean mainly, as partof its interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone
and the cloud bands associated with the system itself. The amounts of precipitation in
the last 6 hours have been more than 40mm.

Forecast: The hurricane will continue to increase in intensity in the next 12 to 24
hours, according to the national hurricane center NHC for its acronym in English.
It will be advancing in the waters of the Caribbean Sea north of Colombia and east
of Panama tonight. Its trajectory and circulation of the induced winds towards its
center will be promoting a very humid environment in our country, so it is expected
that: In the early hours of Sunday and the morning of the same, it is expected that
the rainyactivity will be concentrated especially in the Central and South Pacific,
where therewill be amounts between 20-80 mm.

Warning: Special attention in regions of the South Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula, as
well as in the North Zone, due to high levels of saturation.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong
gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree
  branches, power lines, among others.
