Weather Report # 1
Indirect influence by Tropical Depression # 29 as of Sunday
October 21, 2020
06.30 p.m.
Discussion: Tropical depression # 29 formed earlier this afternoon in the central Caribbean Sea, approximately 1,189 km from the city of Limón. This system maintains sustained winds of 55 km/h, moves at 24 km/h towards the west.
Forecast: It is estimated that tropical depression # 29 will continue to advance over the south of Jamaica on Sunday, then between Monday and Tuesday it will advance towards the northeast coast of Nicaragua, as this happens, a gradual intensification of this cyclone is estimated.
Due to its trajectory, an indirect influence is expected on Costa Rica during the course of Sunday, generating constant entry of humidity and cloudiness from the Pacific to the national territory, favoring episodes of moderate to strong intensity and recurrently, the regions where expected to begin these effects are the Central and South Pacific; Amounts between 100-150 mm and maximums of 200 mm are estimated in 24-hour periods.
Regarding this Saturday's rainfall (they are not related to tropical depression # 29) they will remain during the first hours of the night, especially in coastal sectors of the Pacific and in a dispersed way in the North Zone and Central Valley, accumulated between 25 -50 mm.
Warning: High percentage of soil saturation prevails in the Pacific, North Zone, southern and eastern cantons of the Central Valley, special attention is recommended.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
- Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.
- Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
