Iota dissipated this morning

Diagnosis: The latest data analyzed by the National Hurricane Center of the United States indicate that Iota has lost the characteristics of a tropical cyclone and, therefore, only the remains of this system remain over northern Central America. In Costa Rica, since the last report the rains have been very dispersed and concentrated in the North Pacific, with amounts that have not exceeded 6mm and only Paquera has registered 16mm in the last 6 hours.

 

In addition, in relation to the possible low-pressure system in the Caribbean Sea for the weekend, it is reported that the National Hurricane Center continues to reduce the possibility that this system will become a tropical cyclone, going from 20% to 10% in the next 5 days.

 

Forecast: As Iota dissipates, it is no longer influenced by this system in Costa Rica. However, the remains of this system will generate a constant entry of humidity from the Pacific Ocean to the country.

In the afternoon, isolated rains between weak to moderate intensity are expected along the Pacific slope with amounts estimated between 25-50mm and maximums of 75mm; and in a dispersed form in the Central Valley with amounts that exceed between 10-20mm. Isolated showers with thunderstorms are expected for the Caribbean regions with estimated amounts between 20-40mm and maximums of 50mm.

 

For the night, the rains will be concentrated in the Caribbean regions with amounts between 10-20mm and maximums of 30mm. In the rest of the country, scattered rains on the Pacific slope, with maximum amounts between 10-20mm and 40mm in a specific way in this period.

Warning: Special attention to vulnerable areas in the South Pacific and Guanacaste after the impact of Hurricane Eta. As in the mountainous sectors of the country due to the possibility of landslides due to saturation of the soils.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.

• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
