07.20 a.m.

Discussion: During the night of Saturday tropical depression # 29 strengthened to the degree of tropical storm called Eta, it is located 345 km south of Kingston Jamaica and approximately 872 km from the city of Limón. This cyclone maintains sustained winds of 65 km/h, moving at 24 km/h towards the west.

Forecast: On this Sunday, the Eta storm will continue to advance slowly over the Caribbean Sea towards the west, as the above happens it will be generating a gradual indirect influence in the country; positioning the Intertropical Convergence Zone over Costa Rica, at the same time a constant entry of humidity and cloudiness from the Pacific to the national territory.

This morning, mostly cloudy conditions will prevail in the country with rains in the North Zone, north of Guanacaste and will gradually manifest themselves in the South Pacific, amounts between 25-50 mm are estimated.

In the afternoon rains of variable intensity are estimated in regions of the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 30-70 mm. For its part, isolated rains and downpours are expected in the North Pacific, accumulated between 25-50 mm; Occasional rains are expected in the Central Valley, while in the Northern Zone and the Caribbean mountains isolated rains and downpours are anticipated with a possible storm, amounts between 10-30 mm. Rainfall will continue at night, with greater recurrence in the Pacific and North Zone.
Warning: Special attention in regions of the South and North Pacific, North Zone, southern and eastern cantons of the Central Valley, as well as in mountainous sectors of the Central, due to a high percentage of soil saturation.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  • Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.
  • Take shelter in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
