Meteorological Report N ° 2
Tropical storm Iota
November 14, 2020
8:00 a.m.
Diagnosis: Tropical storm Iota is located 920 km east of Cabo Gracias a Dios between Honduras and Nicaragua, it continues to move very slowly 6 km / h towards the south-southwest in the Caribbean Sea. It has sustained winds of 65 km / h. Due to its position, it still does not have influence in the national territory, as observed in the low amounts of precipitation in the last 12 hours.
Forecast: Iota will continue to strengthen steadily in its passage through the Caribbean Sea, it is expected to reach the hurricane category this weekend. During the afternoon and evening of Saturday, the system will continue its movement towards Central America slowly, beginning to have an indirect influence in the country, reinforcing the rainy activity in the Central and South Pacific, where there will be amounts between 20-80 mm throughout the period . In the Central Valley and the North Pacific there will be rains with amounts between 5-60 mm, as well as in the mountainous sectors of the Caribbean and in much of the North Zone. With the current analyzes, it is expected that, during the early hours of Sunday, there will be rains and downpours of variable intensity in the South Pacific, as well as rains in the North Caribbean.
Warning: Special attention in regions of the Pacific and North Zone, as well as in the west and south of the Central Valley, given the high levels of saturation.Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation and increased flow in rivers and streams.• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
