Weather Report # 1

Tropical depression # 25 with indirect impact on the country as of this afternoon

October 02, 2020
9:30 a.m.

Diagnosis: Tropical wave # 42 has been organized this morning reaching the category of tropical depression # 25, which was formed northwest of the Caribbean Sea, 355 km southeast of Cozumel Mexico. In addition, the Intertropical Convergence Zone is positioned on the Costa Rican Pacific coast caused rains in the South Caribbean, the coast in the Nicoya peninsula and north of Guanacaste this morning.

Forecast: For this Friday afternoon and night, rainy conditions are expected in the national territory, particularly on the Pacific slope. This is due to the instability present in the atmosphere as a result of the indirect influence of tropical depression # 25 and the proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

Specifically, the intense rainy activity is forecast for the Pacific slope in hours of Friday night and Saturday morning, especially for the North and Central Pacific with downpours and storms, the accumulated ones are estimated between 40-100 mm in periods of 12 hours with possible higher amounts locally. For the Central Valley, North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean there will be isolated showers with thunderstorms in the afternoon, the maximum amounts are estimated between 15-50 mm.

The most recent analyzes show the persistence and increase of the indirect affectation by
tropical depression # 25 over the country this weekend, especially for the Pacific slope.

Warning: Special attention in all Pacific regions (South Pacific and Tempisque sector), the
Northern Zone (Sarapiquí, mountainous and surrounding areas), upper parts of the Caribbean and the Central Valley (especially
south and east) since the soils remain saturated due to the rains of the last days.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Caution on the main national highways due to reduced visibility.
• Take refuge in a safe place in case of hearing an electrical storm or perceiving strong gusts of wind.
near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, laying
electric among others.
