Weather Report

Tropical Storm Gamma will continue to affect the country indirectly during the night period

October 03, 2020
9:00 pm

Diagnosis: According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), tropical storm Gamma at this time is located about 55 km northwest of the Tulum area in Quintana Roo, Mexico and is moving northwest with a speed of 13 km / h towards the Gulf of Mexico.

This system maintains an indirect impact on Costa Rica, causing a flow of humidity from the Pacific Ocean to our country, mainly affecting the North Pacific.

The maximum accumulated recorded at this time are: North Pacific (Santa Cruz with 79mm and Cañas with 65mm), Central Pacific (Herradura with 54mm), South Pacific (Cerro Buena Vista with 37mm), North Zone (Las Delicias with 64mm), Valle Central (Fraijanes with 42mm), North and South Caribbean (Juan Viñas with 15mm).

Forecast: During the rest of the night and early morning, rains of variable intensity will persist in the North Pacific, with occasional downpours, with estimated amounts between 20-50 mm in periods of 6 to 12 hours and possible higher amounts locally. In the Central and South Pacific, rains with occasional downpours and storms are expected, particularly in the sectors near the coast. The maximum accumulated are estimated between 15-45 mm with possible higher amounts located.

For the Central Valley (mainly towards the west and north), the North Zone and mountains of the Caribbean, rains with isolated showers and electrical storms, as well as fog banks, are expected. The maximum amounts are estimated between 10-35 mm with possible higher amounts on a specific basis.

Warning: Special attention in all regions of the Pacific (particularly the Guanacaste area), the North area, the upper parts of the Caribbean and the Central Valley (especially the west area), since due to the rains of the last days the soils remain saturated, a condition that increases the risk of incidents
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation.
• Caution on the main national highways due to reduced visibility.
• Take shelter in a safe place in case you hear an electrical storm or perceive strong gusts of wind near the storm clouds, as well as caution against possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
• Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr

The next report will be issued at 3:00 am.
