Weather Report N°9
Tropical storm Julia gradually weakens and the intensity of the rains in the country decreases
October 9, 2022
3.00 pm
Diagnosis: Tropical storm Julia is located north of Lake Nicaragua and its influence in the region is beginning to decrease due to lower moisture content and friction with land. At this time it is located at coordinates 12.4° N, 85.4° W, 100 km ENE of Managua, Nicaragua; moving west at 24 km/h with sustained winds of up to 110 km/h.
Over our country, in the last 6 hours intermittent rains between weak to moderate intensity have been maintained on the North Pacific slope with amounts between 50-100 mm, 60 mm in the Central Pacific and between 50-107 in the South Pacific.
Also, 50 mm in Los Chiles North Zone. Amounts in the last 24 hours are recorded between 110-180 mm in the Central and South Pacific, between 70-130 mm in the North Pacific. Caracol river, Claro river and Pilas overflowed.
Forecast: It is expected that the Julia will continue to cross Nicaragua this Sunday, and tonight-early Monday it will be south of El Salvador weakened as a tropical depression. In our country, the indirect influence of Julia will continue during the afternoon and evening today with intermittent rainfall in the North Zone, North Caribbean and Guanacaste, as well as in the Central and South Pacific, the latter being where the greatest amount will continue to occur. of rainfall.
The Central and Caribbean Valley will have weak and intermittent rains throughout this Sunday. The amounts of rain in the next few hours will be between 20-80 mm in the Caribbean and North Zone intermittently in 24-hour periods. In the Central and South Pacific, amounts between 40-130 mm in 24 hours and specific maximums could be higher; in the North Pacific amounts between 20-110 mm in 24 hours, rains will also be present, but to a lesser extent in the Central Valley with amounts between 5-40 mm in 24-hour periods. The influence of Tropical Storm Julia will last until at least Monday.
Regarding the wind pattern; Occasional gusts of wind can be recorded today, Sunday and even Monday in coastal areas of the North Pacific and mountain ranges (ranges between 30-40 km/h). Warning: Caution in the North and South Pacific regions with a very high probability of flooding, North Zone and Caribbean mountains, due to these regions having high levels of soil saturation due to the possibility of landslides.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Caution due to saturation of the sewage system and possible sudden floods, as well as the main routes of the country in case of heavy rain events.
• Prevention before an electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
