Weather Report No. 8

Tropical wave #6 left the country yesterday, however, its interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) maintains instability on the South and Central Pacific

June 10, 2022
9.00 am

Diagnosis: Tropical wave #6 left the country yesterday, however, its interaction with the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) maintains instability on the South and Central Pacific coast this morning, where cloudy skies have been recorded with weak and moderate intermittent rains, as well as abundant cloudiness in the North Pacific and part of the Central Valley.

Forecast: This morning the cloudiness will remain in coastal sectors of the Central and South Pacific, advancing towards the south of the Nicoya Peninsula, there will be weak rains in these sectors. Rains are expected in Quepos and Parrita until mid-morning and then there will be only cloudy skies with drizzles, in the case of the Los Santos Zone they will have partially cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated drizzles for much of the morning and noon. In Paquera and Cóbano rains are possible in the course of the morning.

In the afternoon, rainy activity of moderate to strong intensity with electrical storm is expected, intermittently in the North Zone and Pacific regions, with amounts between 40-70 mm and estimated maximums of 100 mm, in periods of 24 hours; specifically for the Los Santos Zone, downpours with storms are expected in mid-afternoon, which will extend towards Quepos and Parrita at the end of the afternoon. In the Central Valley and Caribbean mountains, isolated showers with storms with fog banks are expected at the end of the period, amounts between 5-40 mm.

The first hours of the night will continue to rain in the North Pacific, especially towards the coast and nearby plains, there is also the possibility of weak rains and fog banks in the Central Valley and mountainous areas throughout the country. Conditions similar to those of today, Friday, are anticipated for this Saturday, with a tendency to increase rainfall in the Pacific on Sunday due to the passage of tropical wave #7. Warning: Special attention in the regions of the Central Pacific, South Pacific and North Zone because they maintain high soil saturation values.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends: • Caution due to sewage saturation and possible sudden flooding in the Pacific, Central Valley and North Zone. • Prevention before an electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others. • Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: National Meteorological Institute CR and the WEB Page: www.imn.ac.cr

Next report will be issued today at 3 pm.
