Informe Meteorológico N 8
Condiciones lluviosas intermitentes en la Zona Norte y Pacífico
31 de mayo de 2020
5:00 pm
Diagnosis: A tropical storm (Amanda) has degraded over Guatemala and there are remnants, it has also been generating atmospheric instability in the last hours over all of Central America. In the last 6 hours there have only been rains in some sectors of the North Pacific and North Zone.
At 7 pm, what has rained in accumulated maximums recorded (in the last 6 hours) by region are:
Región | Rango de acumulados máximos (en milímetros) |
Valle Central | 5-18 mm |
Caribe Norte | 40-88 mm |
Caribe Sur | 2-15 mm |
Pacífico Sur | 1-10 mm |
Pacífico Central | 1-20 mm |
Pacífico Norte | 20-50 mm |
Zona Norte | 20-96 mm |
Forecast: Amanda's remaining low pressure is heading towards northern Guatemala and southern Mexico and favors the positioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone in northern Central America. Keeping the influence out of Costa Rica.
During the night and early morning the rainy conditions will continue intermittently much weaker than during the afternoon. Accumulated amounts of rain are expected between 5-10 mm in the Central Valley and the Caribbean mountains, between 5-20 mm in the Central and South Pacific, between 20-40 mm in the North Zone and the North Pacific.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation, increased flow in rivers and streams, as well as sectors prone to landslides.
Prevention on national routes, some of them are: route 1, route 10, route 27, route 21, route 32, route 34, route 141 and route 126.
Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
Stay alert to the possibility of landslides due to saturation of the soils in the South Pacific and mountains of the North Zone.
