Informe Meteorológico N 5

Evening rainy conditions by the passage of tropical wave # 2

May 30, 2020
2.00 p.m.

Diagnosis: A low pressure system in the Pacific Ocean off the coasts of El Salvador and Guatemala, has been generating atmospheric instability in recent hours, in addition, at this time tropical wave # 2 is located in the national territory, generating dense cloudiness in most of the country.

At 2 pm, the maximum accumulated figures (in the last 6 hours) by region are:

Región

Rango de acumulados máximos (en milímetros)

Valle Central

0-1 mm

Caribe Norte

 0 mm

Caribe Sur

0 mm

Pacífico sur

0-5 mm

Pacífico Central

0 mm

Pacífico Norte

0-2 mm

Zona Norte

0-14 mm

Forecast: The low pressure system has an 80% probability of becoming a tropical depression in the next 2 days, as it heads towards Guatemala and southern Mexico. In addition to the atmospheric instability, the tropical wave # 2 will have traffic over the country during the afternoon and evening.

During the afternoon and night, rain and downpours with storms are expected in the Pacific, Central Valley and mountainous sectors of the Caribbean and Northern Zone. During the afternoon accumulated amounts of rain are expected between 5-45 mm in the Central Valley and Caribbean mountains, between 5-70 mm in the Central and South Pacific, between 20-90 mm in the North Zone and North Pacific.

During the night the rainy conditions will continue intermittently, but to a lesser extent than during the afternoon. Accumulated amounts of rain are expected between 5-10 mm in the Central Valley and Caribbean mountains, between 5-20 mm in the Central and South Pacific, between 20-30 mm in the North and North Pacific zones.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

Caution in areas vulnerable to flooding due to sewerage saturation, increased flow in rivers and streams, as well as sectors prone to landslides.
Prevention on national routes, some of them are: route 1, route 10, route 27, route 21, route 32, route 34, route 141 and route 126.
Take refuge in a safe place in case of listening to a thunderstorm or perceiving strong gusts of wind near storm clouds, as well as caution for possible falling tree branches, power lines, among others.
Stay alert to the possibility of landslides due to saturation of the soils in the South Pacific and mountains of the North Zone.
