Meteorological Warning

Thunderstorms will continue for the early hours of tonight

May 9, 2020
5:45 pm

Diagnosis: The proximity of the Intertropical Convergence Zone together with the high levels of humidity in the atmosphere over the country have led to the occurrence of localized but very intense rains and thunderstorms in the Pacific and Central Valley regions. Accumulated precipitation at this time is in the range of 10-40 mm.

Forecast: During the first hours of the night the rainy conditions will continue with intense electrical activity in the west and north of the Central Valley. For the rest of this region, isolated rains are foreseen, especially in the highlands and their surroundings.

On the other hand, in the Central and South Pacific regions, in addition to the surroundings of the Gulf of Nicoya, isolated showers with a thunderstorm are anticipated in a timely manner during this same period.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

  •     Take extreme precautions for possible floods, landslides and heavy road rains in the Central and South Pacific.
  •     Drive with caution due to reduced visibility.
  •     Stay informed through social networks, Twitter: @IMNCR, Facebook: Instituto Meteorológico Nacional CR and the WEB page: www.imn.ac.cr
