Precipitation of variable intensity on the Pacific slope during today, Saturday

Diagnosis: The presence of a low pressure system typical of a more active Intertropical Convergence Zone, in addition to unstable conditions of the regional average atmosphere; they are favoring rainfall from the morning hours on the Nicoya Peninsula, coastal areas of the Central Pacific, and therefore reinforce them for the afternoon hours on the Pacific slope.

During the last 12 hours, the regions most affected by rainfall, present records with amounts between 30 - 70 mm and punctual maximums of 100 mm in the North Pacific, between 30 - 60 mm for the Central Pacific, between 10 - 20 mm in the South Pacific.

Forecast: It is forecast that for the afternoon hours, the mountainous and coastal regions of the Central Pacific and South Pacific will be the ones that will present intermittent downpours, which can be of strong intensity, with estimated amounts between 40 - 80 mm with punctual maximums. up to 150 mm in periods of 12 hours. During the morning, variable rains will persist in the Nicoya Peninsula, while by the end of the afternoon and mainly during the night period, rainfall will be reactivated for areas on the Peninsula and surrounding the Gulf of Nicoya, in addition to the Tempisque plains, the estimated amounts will be between 40 – 110 mm in 12 hours. The Central Valley will remain mostly cloudy with occasional rains and with the probability of increasing in the late afternoon and evening hours. The estimated amounts 25 - 60 mm. The Caribbean and North Zone regions will present showers accompanied by storms in an isolated way, towards the center and mountainous areas of the west. The estimated amounts are estimated between 20 – 40 mm with punctual maximums of 80 mm.

Warning: it is estimated that for the regions of the Pacific slope there will be heavy rains this Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the saturated soils for the mountainous South Pacific, mountainous and coastal Central Pacific regions, in addition to the Peninsula and Gulf of Nicoya; They can be the cause of incidents such as small local floods and landslides on unstable ground.

Due to the above, the IMN recommends:

• Caution due to sewage saturation and possible sudden flooding.

• Prevention before an electrical storm and seek refuge in a safe place in the event of strong gusts of wind appearing or being perceived near storm clouds, due to the possible fall of tree branches, power lines, among others.
