Weather Warning
Trade winds intensify for this weekend

Diagnosis: The high pressure systems that have been maintained this week still persist over the center-east of the Caribbean Sea, with their influence on the trade winds for our country. This manifests itself with the presence of gusts between 40 – 60 km/h in the Central Valley and between 40 – 80 km/h with maximums of 91 km/h for the North Pacific and mountainous sectors.
On the other hand, the incursions of morning humidity on the Caribbean slope have favored the presence of isolated short-duration light rain, with accumulated records of less than 15 mm in the last 6 hours.
Forecast: The persistence of the trade winds over the country is estimated for this Friday, increasing the maximum gusts for the afternoon-night of this Saturday, as a result of the arrival of another high pressure system that will enter through the northwest of Central America. In the Central Valley, gusts are forecast between 40 - 70 km/h, in the North Pacific between 50 - 90 km/h with gusts can reach up to 100 km/h, in the mountain ranges of said region.
Regarding rainfall, intermittent short-term rains are estimated in regions of the Caribbean and the North Zone with amounts between 5 - 20 mm for today Friday in periods of 24 hours, increasing the probability of specific amounts between 15 - 40 mm for on Saturday. Drizzle is possible in the north and east of the Central Valley, as well as in mountainous sectors of the North Pacific, amounts of less than 5 mm for this Saturday. Isolated showers in the mountains of the Central Pacific and around the Golfo Dulce.
Warning: Special attention due to strong gusts of wind in the North Pacific, Central Valley and the mountains for this weekend.
Due to the above, the IMN recommends:
• Prevention of gusts of wind and their possible affectation of roofs, electrical wiring, signs, trees; as well as in the mountainous parts of the country and Guanacaste (national parks, volcanoes).
• Caution in air navigation due to increased turbulence, as well as in maritime navigation due to increased rough seas, especially in the North Pacific, Gulf of Nicoya and North Central Pacific.
• Avoid burning of all kinds, since they can get out of control.
